  2. 1. A quick fix to index generation

  5. 1. Better support for XVID encoded videos, although still the original xvid decoder is 
  6. recommended (ffdshow is not supported).
  7. 2. ôSave asö feature is now operational. So one can save previews of videos being 
  8. downloaded and watch them in a common player. Corrupted files can be fixed 
  9. permanently this way. It only works as ôSave asö under a different name, you cannot 
  10. write into the file you previewing, should be updated in later releases.
  11. 3. File switching and update speedup.
  12. 4. All known memory leaks are fixed.
  13. 5. Volume control
  14. 6. Right mouse click brings a floating menu up with major control functions.
  15. 7. Zoom functions: 50%, 100%, 200%, Full Screen.
  16. 8. Cleanup of the recently accessed files (in the Tools menu).
  17. 9. Smaller number of DirectX warnings in general and ability to switch them off 
  18. permanently (Settings->Show DirectX Warnings). Caution, if you turn it off, there 
  19. will be no way for you to know what went wrong (in case anything did).

  21. 11. I am back to MFC 4.2, so all win98 troubles should be gone.

  24. Issues (discovered):
  25. 1.    Some DirectX filters may leak memory. It is general DirectX problem not much 
  26. can be done here. Just restart Avipreview once in a while and (win2000-XP) 
  27. system should perform the cleanup.

  32. 1.    Tired of fighting the stability issues under WinXP-Win2000 I just recompiled the 
  33. program in VC++7.0 (6.0 before) and linked statically MFC 7.0 (dynamic dlls 
  34. MFC 4.2 before). Have not experienced a single crash since. Did not change a 
  35. single line of code û weird but is the way it is. Looks like DirectX and MFC 4.2 
  36. just not go along very well.

  40. 1.    MPG (MPEG) support is now on.
  41. 2.    AVI index generation has a progress bar and can be stopped any time. On next 
  42. file data update it will continue from the point you stopped.
  43. 3.    Smart Key Frame search algorithm. On more than 50% of AVI file keyframes can 
  44. be found precisely resulting in better seeking performance. The algorithm 
  45. introduces no additional computational load. User can turn the algorithm 
  46. ON/OFF.
  47. 4.    Win 2000-XP: third party applications can move/rename/delete the file you are 
  48. previewing
  49. 5.    Win98-ME: File releasing is now correct. 
  50. 6.    Controls are disabled then index generation is the progress.
  51. 7.    Faster index generation algorithm. Plus some bugs fixed.
  52. 8.    Stop button: stop and release the file.
  53. 9.    Keyboard shortcuts to main commands
  54. 10.    Tooltips for buttons are now always on.
  55. 11.    Hopefully more informative error messages.

  59. 1.    File->Open works even for extremely long file names.
  60. 2.    Video should now be always visible (toggle full screen on/off).
  61. 3.    Once file information has been updated the movie rewinds to the last played 
  62. portion.
  63. 4.    Slider works a bit better.

  66. -------------
  67. 1.    ôCheck for updateö now really checks only the part of the file which has not been 
  68. checked since the last index regeneration. Update is MUCH faster now.
  69. 2.    Using ôEscö to go from full screen back to windowed mode. Well, the issue of 
  70. video window disappearance is still where but happens less often. Perhaps, it 
  71. happens only in my setup. None seems to complain about it. Anyway, (TMP 
  72. solution) move the main program window (or change its size) for windows to 
  73. appear. Or press Esc again (go full screen) and then go windowed mode.
  74. 3.     ôEmpty start of the fileö- took a lot of time for program to realize that nothing 
  75. could be done here. Now AVIPreview by AJ checks explicitly if the beginning of 
  76. the file is present and looks like AVI. So it takes no time to figure out that where 
  77. is no data in the start of the file.
  78. 4.    Update or opening a new file causes the internal video window to jump out of the 
  79. main frame. Solved.
  80. 5.    Visit www.avipreview.com does not work on some platforms. Now it should be 
  81. in working order.
